FAQs
I’ve never taken an online course before.  Can I handle it if I’m not high-tech?
If you can operate a keyboard and a mouse
and have a connection to the Internet, you are qualified to take an online course. We can also provide a one-hour orientation, either online or face-to-face, to help you get familiar with the process.

Are there any face-to-face meetings required?
No, all learning can be done online.

Are there any specific times I need to be online?
No, all activities can be completed at the times and days that best suit you. Ideally, you will spread your time over  the course of each week to fully participate in discussions with other participants.

Can I earn CPDU credit by taking these classes?
Yes. All teachers are approved providers of CPDUs (Continuing Professional Development Units) with the State of
Illinois.

What are the CPDU requirements for re-certification in the State of Illinois?
To move from Initial to Standard Certification, teachers
need 60 CPDUs or approved graduate coursework. For
more  information, refer to ISBE’s Educator Certification on Initial Teaching Certificates. To renew a standard or master certificate, 120 CPDUs are required. Details can be found on the ISBE Educator Certification on Standard and Master Teaching Certificates.

Are there any benefits to earning more CPDUs
than those required for recertification?

In some cases, yes. For example, in the Archdiocese of Chicago, teachers who earn  250 CPDUs can move to the next lane in the pay scale (the equivalent of 15
graduate credits).

Can I use Title Funds or professional growth money to pay for my classes?
All facilitators are vendors with the Chicago Public
Schools, so Title IIA and IID funds may be used to pay for coursework. We can be of assistance with paperwork if  you are a Catholic School located within the City of Chicago.  And yes, you can also useyour contractual
professional growth funds.
